Breathe Carolina

One of the most anticipated album releases I sought out to catch live this summer was from a new and exciting band known as Breathe Carolina. In just 2 years after reaching international popularity from the infamous Myspace community, a large following and fan base got them over 9 million plays and they suddenly turned their hobby into a career. They self debuted their first EP, Gossip, on itunes that turned a great response to help with the release of their first album, “Its Not Classy, It’s Classic” in 2008. The album shook the industry by debuting at #186 on the Billboard Top 200, #6 on the Heatseekers chart and #5 on the electronic chart.

For Breathes next album Fearless records set the date for “Hello Facination” to be released August 18, 2009. With a blazing new amplitude that ascends to a new level, Breathe Carolina adds live instruments and catchy chorus lines that scream to their adoring fans to sing along.

A harder, faster, and a much more wild ride began with their next release on Fearless Records titled “Hell Is What You Make It.” This album was produced by Ian Kirkpatrick (Plain White T’s, Neon Trees) and Matt Squire (3OH!3, All Time Low) and they hit the road hard with it this summer on the Scream It Like You Mean It tour with Chiodos, I See Stars, The Color Morale, Mod Son, and The Air I Breathe.

These guys are some of the most down to earth and talented group of musicians that I’ve ever met and their new album “Hell Is What You Make It,” is definitely something you need to get your hands on. “Consider Breathe Carolina a less anarchic Brokencyde, a rougher Never Shout Never, a hip-hop-less LMFAO. This Denver duo — Kyle Even and David Schmitt — have just released “Hell Is What You Make It” (Fearless), their third full-length album. Produced mostly by Ian Kirkpatrick, it’s one of the year’s best pure pop albums, even if that’s an increasingly meaningless designation. Rivulets of teen pop, pop-punk, screamo and club music all feed these songs, which are propulsive and cheerful even when the subject matter is grim.” – The New York Times

Check out these 2 videos below that I took with my iPhone from their show at the Majestic Theater in Detroit August 20, 2011. Also you can find some photos on the Roshambo Promo’s facebook page. While you are at it make sure to check out Breathe Carolinas Official website for tour updates and also learn how you can win some Breathe Carolina swag and a phone call from the guys!!!!!

Dirt Fest 2011

The Birch Run Expo center has been home for the annual known Dirt Fest since the year 2006.  Bands such as The Black Dahlia Murder, Everytime I die, and Silverstein have played alongside several local Michigan acts at Dirt Fest and it is continuously growing every year.  On August 13th this year I was finally able to attend my first, and most definitely not my last Dirt Fest that had some big acts on mainstage including All That Remains, Pop Evil, Evans Blue, Alien Ant Farm, and many more.

The weather was perfect all day long which turned out to be a great day for good music, fun, and photos as well.   I got to say hi to some good friends over at the Safe & Sound Apparel tent and snap a couple photos right before catching a great show from Wilson.  I also got a chance to catch The Dirty Americans, Hey Bastard, Silverstein,  and the one and only Hawthorne Heights rock the party armour stage.  Many other good bands performed throughout the afternoon that guaranteed a mix of awesomeness for all sorts of people.  50 plus bands on 5 different outdoor stages proved Dirt Fest is summer music festival that you dont want to miss next year.  Something new to the fest this year  included over 10 dj sets that set an interesting pace for several dirtfesters.

Check out some photos I snapped throughout the day and make sure to give some props to Matt Dalton for making this an awesome day of opportunity and great experience for the Michigan music scene.  Also stop over at http://record-bin.com to check out this broadband media collective website that allows artists, fans, promotional companies, and record labels to explore, express, and expand their vision for the future of the music industry.  I got a chance to get to know the developers of the company over at their tent at Dirt Fest and they are really passionate about what they do.  These guys from Bay City really have a great thing going for artists to sign up, be heard, and be discovered.

Fucking Awesome Fest

Wednesday August 10th was the launch of hopefully an annual music fest put on by Black Iris Booking in Detroit.   Fucking Awesome Fest was a full line up of bands that stretched over 4 days at the Majestic Theater, Garden Bowl, and The Magic Stick.  A wide variety of bands ranging from the likes of The Swellers and Wilson, and even to the level of LA’s hardcore band, TERROR took over the stage.  The official launch party of the fest headlined FLASHCLASH for the night for their Intergalactic Interactive Vinyl Release show.  The floors and stage were slapped with neon electric tape that set of their futuristic electric-rock band twist of a show. Their set was synchronized with a quirky and spacey video production that was out of this world.  The crowd was filled with over a hundered plus of their fans and they really put on a good show for them. Check out some live video from the show and keep an eye out for a video collaboration with Joe Gall.

I also made it up stairs to the Magic Stick on Wednesday night to catch some the show put on by PASSALACQUA. Their hype astonishing show grabbed the crowds attention with their distinct rap styles and punk-rock, hip-hop sound. The energetic and skilled musicians got the crowd to have some fun with confetti guns and some beach balls and it was a riot! Defintley a show Im glad I got to see! Check out a few photos from the show and read a great review of them in Real Detroit Weekly.

SUMMER SLAUGHTER

A hot HOT day in Detroit at St. Andrews hall began at 3pm with, WITHIN THE RUINS.  I made it there in time to see 2 songs of their set and they really started it off.  Early comers also got to enjoy Flesh God Apocalypse,  As Blood Runs Black, Oceano, and Six Feet Under  with me.  The outrageousness of all of the big smelly metal dudes forced me to commence to Delux Louge for a breather before The Black Dhalia Murder. So unfortunatley I missed Darkest Hour and White Chapel.  After some much needed air and hydration I managed to snap some photos of the Black Dahlia. It was great. Take a few moments and check out some photos I got from the show!

The All Stars Tour

Last week a big line up of bands were in town for this summers All Stars Tour.  It was a long day full of good music and good friends.  It was especially awesome to catch up with our friends in Alesana and watch their energetic set from stage.  Unfortunately I didn’t bring my good camera with me to the show but the new iPhone 4 takes great video and pics so I ran the battery dead.  I have a few videos on my youtube channel from the show and also here is a few pics to check out.  Make sure to head over to Alesana’s facebook page and give them a like and keep a look out for their new record coming out on Epitaph Records!!
